Uploading Photos With Card Reader

I've tried 2 different card readers and get the same message: UNABLE TO MOUNT PHOTOS: Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with: mount: only root can mount /dev/sdb1 on /media/sda1

Can anyone say what this means please? I have a Linux 11 system from 2011. The card reader I've got says it's compatible with Linux/Windows/Mac. The camera is a Fiji 12.2 which did work with a direct cable but the "prongs" inside the camera are now bent back so won't work. Thanks all.
