Maxie
As you know I love him to bits but on top of a few irritating bits and bobs - the one thing is that I don't seem to have any control of him coming to me at my command.
Sometimes what I have to do is sit in living room with lead etc and wait for him to come to me when I have to go out either for a walk or into the car and even then he doesn't come.
Now I am ready for bed and usually I let him out for a pee and then we retire but when I go into dining room where he is - he runs away and frankly I'm fed up with it.
I need to have more control - any help there. Treats and bits and bobs don't do it. thank yhou.

He was chewing his paws and groin leaving them roaring red - with antinflammatories and antibiotics that has cleared up. He would not eat from my hand but I have earned his trust that he does now. He kept his head and body to the ground now he jumps with abundance onto settee and onto top of settee itself where he settles for hours He runs around the house particularly when back door is open so he is in and out. He wouldn't play with any toys in fact he is afraid of a ball - I cut the eyes out of an old teddy bear and that's his mate. My sister was even worried when I got him now she can't believe how improved he is. He has become a DOG. The lead thing was only a blip. Sorry for treading on any toes.
to hazel and woofy - she only gets upset as she thinks that i'm going to the park without her. as soon as i get her treats that we take with us to the park and put my dog walking clothes on she runs upstairs as she thinks she'll get a treat if she comes to the door. i've stoped doing it as she's starting to act a little spoilt and i think going to the park isa treat in it's self. when i leave her during the day i put her in my bedroom, give her a toy and tell her i love her that i will be back soon. she's fine with this, every time i talk to my neighbors i always ask if they can hear her, and the only time is when she barks if someone is at the door.
to jenny, i can tell you love him from how protective and upset you get at peoples comments, as i'm the same. i've only started coming on here so i haven't read any previous questions but from what you said in your last post it sounds like your doing a great job and i wish there were more dog owners like you. i get so upset in the winter or when it's raining as i hardly seen any dog walkers out so that must mean that the dogs are just stuck at home

jennyjoan it's interesting that you've noticed Maxie likes to get up on the back of the settee - That's very much a trait o the Shih Tsu - they were used in Tibetain monastries as alarm dogs therefore needed to be up high in order to get a good look out. It's really important they are allowed to do this as so many behavioural problems are a result of dogs being prevented from doing what they were bred for. We have three of the little delights and they are always up on tables, chair backs etc. Full marks for spotting that and good luck with Maxie.
