Internet Explorer 11 Out Of Date
cannot use bt mail on this as it keeps saying its out of date (browser) and to download latest version but still get the same thing. I know that they are bringing out something new apparently as they are getting rid of ie, I can use ebay bbc news and loads of other sites and although I have also got chrome I don't really like it. friend suggested I try to uninstall ie 11 and then l lower version such as 9 or 10 but don't know if this would help. so any help or advice would help tia

Well that makes two of us! However I use Firefox, which I absolutely love. (It's also a great deal closer to IE, than Chrome, in it's layout). Worth a try perhaps?

thanx tried the mrfixit and its not compatible, which doesn't make sense as its Microsoft. I do also have firefox (recently) so it might suit me better than chrome but you know what its like when you just get used to something and you know where everything is and then whoops they change everything, they call it updating, renewing but I really wish we had the option to leave it alone, don't know if the replacement for ie is up and running yet, but would be interested to find out if anyone has tried it
As of the moment, there is nothing up & running as a replacement to IE 11.
Tell us what Windows Operating System you have ...Windows Vista, W7, W8 or whatever.
Perhaps a silly thought on my part......You may have picked-up something of a Browser Blocker. Give a scan with the free edition of Malwarebytes; making sure you reject any offer for a trial of the premium edition and uncheck any boxes which are offering McAfee or anything else. Then report back in this thread.

will try that hans. we are on windows 8.1 and cannot read our emails via ie (bt mail) hubby tried to chat with a bt advisor sometime ago and was told it had something to do with the "formatting" of the computer which made no sense to us, but at times the pages of other sites take ages to load and ie closes then reopens them. Mozilla firefox crashes too and the plug in does too even though flash player is upto date. will see how malwarebytes goes
Good Afternoon jesmond.....Have you been able to do anything with Malwarebytes.?
Please post further because, if you are still in difficulties, I would wish to help as far as I am capable.......Bearing in mind that a top AB Techie (methyl) is keeping tabs on your thread and is more likely to come-up with an answer.
The fact that you are operating on Windows 8.1 means that, reverting to an earlier version of Internet Explorer, does Not appear to be possible. Furthermore, as you are also having problems with Firefox, I am becoming more convinced that you have a 'nastie' which needs to be removed from your computer/laptop.

hi Hans nothing "sinister" has appeared via malwarebytes and have again tried reading emails via ie but still cant although we read them via chrome, as i said ie has been an issue for a while and if methyl or yourself can explain what "formatting" is (more simpler than what we have read online) then that would be great but other than that we will just have to continue with chrome/firefox
Good morning jesmond.......If your Computer was bought with Windows 8.1 pre-installed, then it would have been formatted to allow the Operating System to be installed. It's Not easy trying to explain formatting (Partitioning the Storage Disc) and I think the BT chap was uttering BT (Bovine Talk !!). It is NOT possible to re-format without clearing everything out of your computer; so leave well alone.
Also I suggest that you forget about Internet Explorer and concentrate on Firefox. Check and make sure your FF is fully up-to-date, it should be 38.0.1
(Open FF, click Help and About Firefox to see what version you have.)

sorry for late reply, i am not quite sure where to find out about the update or how to revert back to ie10 and as we have had problems in the past i dont want to go doing things unless i know where it is so if you can help further then that would be great but otherwise i may well leave system as it is and use chrome (reluctantly) or firefox
Hi jesmond.....I am waiting to read further comments from methyl who has far more knowledge than I have on Windows Operating Systems. Beyond Windows 7 I am completely lost and, whilst I endeavour to assist people as much as possible, I will admit that a lot of my information is from Internet Searches.

It is possible that it could be of some assistance to you, but I would like to read what AB techies such as methyll and Buenchico have to say further on the matter.
