How Much Did Your Main Meal Cost Today?

Just cooked Sunday Lunch for four people :

Free Range Chicken
Roast Spuds
Singing Swede
Steamed Cauli
Yorkshire Pudds
Stuffing
Gravy
Horseradish Sauce

All from Aldi - total cost approx £8.50

No huge cooking skills (although it was damn good) - and it was (I think) cheaper than any sort of instant/ready meal option that would have filled us up as nicely.

So why do we get so much noise about "Can't afford to eat properly"?

Is it an age thing? Are the skills just not there?

Or am I just a boring old fart with out-of-date ideas?

alavahalf -you have carrots and potatoes ready in your allotment -where do you live, Jersey?

With carrots 35p a Kg and a 25Kg sack of spuds £9.50 at the farm shop it is hardly worth the time and effort to run an allotment, if you can get one in the 1st place. The council here want to sell off the allotments to build houses.
