When I worked in ford main dealers in the 1990s we would not take them in as part exchange and would not sell them secondhand. Yours has done well if it has only just started - but normally avoid ford CVT (belt driven) gearboxes like the plague.
Sorry
I must point out that the car isn't doing it every time. Sometimes it will start ok, go into gear ok and not cut out at all on a journey. But when it does cut out it is either just as I put the car into drive or when I am stopping, say at traffic lights, junctions, etc. I would really appreciate any ideas, thanks.
Have had a mechanic look at it & he did a diagnostic test, it showed nothing. However, he did say that something (not sure what) needed adjusting on the automatic gearbox as the gear changes were rather erratic. It is now a smoother ride, hasn't cut out (yet) so fingers crossed. And it only cost me 20!
Although now it is making a rattling/grinding sort of noise when I put my foot down to pull away, once going it is fine. tried to figure out where it was coming from, engine or back of car, but not really sure as only does it when actually driving the car to pull away. Wondered if its due to anything mechanics done?
