I'm relatively new to the AnswerBank and have only posted two questions but each time I was asked to scroll down to see if the question had already been asked. So how come the same questions appear time and time again e.g. the rim of the ear, the ballet leap, sometimes days after they've already been asked and answered?

Because people (unlike you) are too lazy to do this or they don't put the title of the crosssword in the title line or else they post their queries in separate posts rather all in one!! Good luck anyway - has caused lots of entertainment to me so far!!

Either because people are unaware of the search function for questions that have been asked before, or because they can't be bothered to scroll down. Or because they enjoy winding people up. I'm charitably-minded and will therefore assume the first is true in most instances.

I am not as "charitably-minded" as shammydodger and think that some people are just too lazy to read previous posts, and it bores me to read the same questions time after time. So, thank you, FoxLee for taking the trouble.
Hurray we have come across someone with a bit of common sense about all the same questions being posted without already checking that they have already been asked, what a refreshing change. :-)
FoxLee, If you watch this site on a regular basis, you may notice that there are certain members who seem to commit these same "offences" with impunity. I don't understand it iether, it would appear that some people are favoured for some reason.
One other thing FoxLee, (sorry to disillusion you) but I have politely suggested an answer has already been posted and have been abused for this.. despite the fact that it was not a crossword I was doing so took no note of the answer but knew I'd seen it before... but really! some people are taking the mickey about posting the obvious....I'm all for polite discussion of a point but not when I've seen it numerous times before! There that's my little rant!! :-))

I agree and it drives me bananas!!!!!

Another thing I am very suspicious of is those people that post on a Monday saying they have thrown away the link words from the weekend papers....this happens every week, call me an old cynic but have these people done the weekend puzzle???

All the contributors above are selfless, generous individuals who think nothing of giving their time and knowledge for the benefit of others - even to the point of using Google or other search engines for the lazy miscreants who think the answer is all that matters.

The above contributors use AB only as a (very) last resort, having used their dictionaries, thesauruses (Query: thesauri? I'm away from my dictionary) and encyclopediae, inter alia, already, and only then having used internet search engines.

So, if they can be bothered to do all this - because it's the search for the answer as much as the answer itself which provides the satisfaction, particularly for crosswords - you can understand the fury/anger/impatience that is sometimes felt when one sees the same question posted over and over again.

The simple things - like posting more than one question from one crossword at the same time, bothering to read the page that says "see if your question has already been asked before posting" or using the search function - seem to be beyond some people.

When those questioners also reply with vitriol to the respondents (that politely and in a spirit of helpfulness suggest some of the above simple things) and never, ever offer thanks then you have the beginnings of extreme p*ss*d-offedness.

Thank you, FoxLee, for posting this question. Let's hope others read it and the replies, too.

Hear hear BigMac, well said.

Wow, I wasn't expecting that sort of response. It's good to know that others of you feel the same way and perhaps those guilty of duplicating questions ad infinitum will clean up their act and allow AB to work more efficiently.
We can but hope but I for one will not hold my breath.
There are also lots of anagram unscramblers/solvers on the internet and websites that will attempt to identify whole words from partially complete words ... but still people choose to ask questions rather than try to sort the answer out first.
Is this site called ANSWER BANK, or have I stumbled upon a low-quality chat-room, with all of the usual subjects present ?
Question Author
Yes, Keyboardix it is called ANSWER BANK not REPEAT THAT QUESTION FOR THE TENTH TIME or I'M TOO LAZY TO LOOK IT UP MYSELF. If the question didn't interest you, you were under no obligation to click on it.

Bigmac don't TRY to spoil things for other people
