Weekend break at a posh place

Anyone know of a castle/stately home that I can book up for a weekend break for myself and an American friend? It needs to be in Devon, Cornwall, Avon or Dorset because of travelling.

I want them to get a touch of the "Olde England" and my friend loves castles and stately homes so even better if we can have a weekend break in one.

Americans will like Dartmouth and Plymouth because of the links with the Mayflower. Devon also has some of the best restaurants and chefs in the country John Burton-Race in Dartmouth, Michael Caines in Exeter and Chris Tanner in Plymouth. It certainly has the best food

Check out Thornbury Castle near Bristol. Fantastic food and beautiful rooms and it even has its own little vineyard.

Thank you Danny and Delilah - there's some great choices there, and I love the look of Thornbury Castle. The unique home stays have a great choice so I am going to do a bit of internet shopping now.

Ah - I guess if you don't like Art Deco then you wouldn't want to stay here! Can't believe it is that expensive now though - a friend booked out the whole island for her wedding a few years back.....
