Another reason to get out of the EU. I also recall some perfectly serviceable fishing boats being bulldozed to destruction. Imposed fishing quotas again.
Meanwhile Spanish and French fishing boats make use of Newlyn etc with impunity. Another reason to reclaim our fishing rights and grounds from Europe.

/// Baldric, that link gives a totally different slant to the Express's scaremongering. I see nothing about UK food shortages there. ///

This from Baldric's link.

*** “This can cause long delays to the scheduled arrival times of trucks in our members’ depots, jeopardise the delivery of freight for their customers, and cause huge inefficiencies in their transport planning. ***

Baldric's link may no say so much in many words, but common sense makes one assume that there will such shortages.

"I see nothing about UK food shortages there." [in the “Lloyds Loading List” report]

Perhaps you should revisit it, Hopkirk:

“This can cause long delays to the scheduled arrival times of trucks in our members’ depots, jeopardise the delivery of freight for their customers, and cause huge inefficiencies in their transport planning.

“Without action now from the authorities in France and the UK, I believe there is a good chance that if the situation continues, international transport sub-contractors will start to refuse to operate on the Continent-UK cross-channel market, due to the personal and financial risks that they and their staff are now taking.

Note: “…jeopardise the delivery of freight for customers…” and “…international transport sub-contractors will start to refuse to operate on the Continent-UK cross-channel market,”. To reiterate AOG’s remarks, they may not be so “sensational” as the Daily Express but the implication is just the same.

Since much of the freight that travels this route is food, if either of the above eventualities arise I should think there is a very good chance that food supplies will be effected.

Of course we’ll survive, Naomi. That’s what Britain does (rather than clearing off the pastures new as soon as problems arise). But this situation was well and truly forecast when the Schengen Agreement was signed and implemented and we should not be in such a position.

Just when are people going to wake up and stop blaming the newspapers for telling them about a very serious problem that is unfolding on mainland Europe?

I wonder how thorough the security is on outbound containers?
I assume these containers were from Holland.
like when Britain was under siege with U-boats sinking supply ships and bombers attacking the country every night?

Oh yes, it's exactly like that.
The nationalities of these people is very interesting.
vietnamese
Chinese
Afghan
Russian

The Polish drivers have been arrested.
Fresh produce is rotting before it gets to us too, there was a headline last week that we might expect fruit & veg prices to rise.

Calais was shut over the weekend anyway - 2 WW2 bombs founds near the harbour had to be disarmed before ferries could sail again.

OH rarely uses Calais these days - he says it's terrifying.
