Name for world spinning around you effect

I remember hearing on the radio a few years ago that the effect when you are lying in bed and the world appears to be spinning around you has a name. What is it?

It can be caused by an infection of the inner ear either Labryinthitis or Meneres Disease, both of which cause the world to spin and can cause severe vomiting and is I am told by those who suffer it extremely nasty and unpleasant and can last several weeks.

None of those. It's a very mild form of dizzyness that affects most people and can happen just as you have gone to bed and are in the dark, similar to the effects you would get whilst drunk, but much more mild and whilst you are sober.

Having suffered from Menieres disease, I can confirm that it does indeed make the world feel like it is spinning around you. Also facial paralysis and acute deafness. What a great two months THAT was.
