Laptop Will Not.....
6 Answers
burn my music onto cd-rw s ......it will only accept dvd-rw which will not play on my standalone cd player.....or rather it says it has burned the cd-rw but when i play it in my cd player - nothing!!
If I play one of my cd-rw s on my laptop, which were burned on a previous laptop, all is well...I can listen to them and rip from them.
Any helpful ABer out there who can help me in words of one syllable please?
TIA

You've told us that your laptop will play CD-RWs burned on a previous laptop but not whether it will play your newly-burned ones. (You've only said that they won't play in a standalone CD player). If they also play OK on your laptop then it would seem to be a compatibilit y issue between the discs and your CD player (rather than a problem with your laptop's CD drive...

Can your cd player play cdrw?
How have you burned the cdrw - have you just put mp3 files on or have you used a programme to make an audio cd?
If you have just dragged them on, assuming you are using windows did you burn it in mastered or live mode - live is when windows leaves the disk open so you can add more files later on, mastered is whne the disk is finalised - this is the format to ensure that the disk can be accessed in cd players etc.

If they also play OK on your laptop then it would seem to be a compatibility issue between the discs and your CD player (rather than a problem with your laptop's CD drive or its burning software). In that case I'd suggest trying CD-Rs (because some CD players won't recognise CD-RW discs).
If the newly-burned discs won't play on your laptop, go to 'Computer' and right-click on the icon for the drive with the disc in it. Select 'Explore' and see if Windows can recognise any content on the disc. (There should be a single file, containing all of your tracks. If you see MP3 separate tracks you've burnt a data disc, rather than an audio one. If you see nothing at all there would appear to be something awry with your burning software. Try something different, such as Ashampoo's freebie: https:/ /www.as hampoo. com/en/ usd/pin /7110/b urning- softwar e/Asham poo-Bur ning-St udio-FR EE ).

There's an inconsistency between your posts.
At 2021 you told us "it says it has burned the cd-rw but when i play it in my cd player - nothing!". I read as that as saying that everything appears to be normal when you attempt to burn a CD-RW (but it simply won't play when you transfer it to your CD player)
But at 2044 you wrote "my laptop will not recognise cd-rw to burn to". I read that as saying that you can't go through the burning process at all (because your burning software says that there's no disc, or an incompatible disc, in the drive).
So now I'm confused! Which is correct, please?
