Putting A Date To An Old Building
There's an obscure building in Northumberland that I care about, and I need to know when it was built. I do know that it was built in the 1930's, but it would help if I knew which year exactly.
Is there somewhere where they keep records for things such as this? Would they have had to apply for Planning Permission?
Please point me in the right direction

It's still a mystery as to how the place was heated prior to the building of the Boiler House, but there is evidence of a smaller boiler house with a smaller chimney. The Main (and oldest) Building had large coal fire places in its ward.
This photograph dates back to the 1920's, before the Boiler house was built and lacks the large chimney that would have been on the skyline. There is what appears to be a smaller chimney chimney from what is believed to be a smaller boiler house near the 'X'

St Mary's (previously known as Gateshead Lunatic Asylum) was a different establishment and nearby (about half a mile to the south) and is a fascinating subject in itself
