Hole In Wheely Bin

I have aquired an old wheely bin, which I would like to use as a water butt. unfortunately it as a hole in it which is in the wrong place to use to put in a tap.What would be the best way of sealing said hole?

Mastic, plastic and rivets

Piece of hard plastic stuck on with an epoxy resin glue.

If you do attempt to use any of the above methods, to give the best chance of success ensure that any additional plastic is positioned with the force of the water assisting in the seal.

If unsuccessful with the above approach, I would size the hole such that a short threaded plastic pipe can be fitted – once secured, the open end can be capped off, forming a watertight fitting.

Gosh is it worth it? you can get a 100l water butt from B&Q for under £30.

I would pass it on to someone who wants a bin and doesn't mind the hole. Get a water butt. Sometimes a bodged change of use is more trouble than it is worth. However good your 'change of use' for it, it would always be vulnerable to springing a leak. Get a container without the problem.
