They're Ray Ban with clear lenses. Apart from posting in the lost and found on Gumtree(which I don't hold out much hope for) and a card in the window of the local newsagents what more could I do to return them to their owner?

There's a small silver coloured plate on each arm with ' Ray Ban' on it. The inside of the frames are red with the name in cursive script, in white.
There are free ads in some local papers. I'll see if they'd accept a lost+ found ad.

Put them back where you found them and let someone else pick up the burden and examine their own conscience You've done enough, you've been tested and not been found wanting (raybans anyway)

If I may paraphrase Luke 15:7, There is more rejoicing over one lost pair of glasses returned than over 99 pairs which were never misplaced.

I eventually placed an ad in the Lost & Found column of the Telegraph. No replies so a fiver wasted.
In future if I see anything lost, apart from money, I'll leave it where it is.
