The reason I mention it is because I was going to post that "Dance with the devil" by Cozy Powell is also my favourite drum solo, even if it doesn't quite qualify for this thread.

no problem azimov i know your completely right but lets be fair it still has a great intro with the drums starting off slow and building up, i know you'll agree it is worthy of a mention. :)

"Ballroom Blitz" - The Sweet. Not technical - just distinctive and definitive.

Best drum intro ever ? Definitely, without any doubt, 'Chinetown' by 'The Move' - Roy Wood's original band. Starts with a gong and then goes right around the kit finishing with alternating stereo-panned toms. You just can't get a better introduction than that ! Second best ? Has to be Deep Purple's 'Fireball'. Starts with the sound of a machine starting up, follow ed by only about three bars of drums, one bar of bass and thenheadlong into the song ! In third place I'd lie to put a track by 'The Glitter Band' as Gary Glitter's backing goup included two drumkits ! They never really did make full use the the stereo possibilities and anyway - I can't remember the name of the track !
