The Window In Our Shower - Any Fenestraters Out There?
11 Answers
Hi all,
So, our shower has a window in it. I didn't choose it, it was here when we got the place, but it's nice to be able to open it fully and let the bathroom air (it's the only window in there).
But, it's 12 years in and the window's suffering. We don't want to change it, since that would be too expensive. But it seems the metal frame has got quite a lot water sloshing around in it. Everyone knows not to direct the shower at the window directly, but it does get splashed quite a lot by virtue of it, you know, being inside the shower.

As you can see in pic 3, I drilled a hole in one of the lowest underneath parts of the frame, in the hope it would drain. It didn't!
I think the water in there isn't doing it much good, and parts of it look pretty grimy, for example where the outside frame parts meet at 45 degrees.
What should I do?
If I take it off its hinges, will it rehang properly?
If I take it off its hinges and take it apart, will I suffer when trying to put it back together? I'm pretty handy, but strictly DIY not Pro.
Any thoughts / comments gratefully received.

I think a shower curtain over wouldn't look so great....
What I'm really looking for is some advice about whether or not I should try taking it off the hinges and apart, to clean and dry and re-hang.
Holes could work, but I can't work exactly where the water is collecting without taking it off...
