Pet Cutlery

I have always kept a special fork for putting out our cat's food, but have often wondered if this is absolutely necessary. Anyone have any thoughts on this.

Hi, if you have a Dishwasher it doesn't matter, but even if you haven't I don't think that's necessary, a good hot wash would be okay.

When I'm looking after my Bro's animals Six cats and a German Shepherd, even after I've washed up I keep the same spoons separate from the rest and do them last. Weird, I never really thought about it before as it is unnecessary.

I also use a specific knife but don't think it matters. Off the shelf petfood is perfectly safe for humans to eat I think.

I always keep our cat's stuff separate from ours and wash it up separately.

Everything goes through the dishwasher together.

When I read the heading I thought that you had managed to teach your cat to eat with a knife and fork! Had a little titter to myself.

I always kept my cats feeding fork seperate from any other utensil.

I wondered if you'd been conned into buying something at the vets - like I was when I came home with a cat toothbrush and paste.

The cat food in a can is edible by humans anyway. (The manufacturers employ humans to taste the stuff). So there's no difference between spooning out cat food and spooning out, say, braised steak. I happily use the same implements.

However I do keep a separate scourer for washing the cat bowls with. That's actually rather illogical of me though as the cats are always allowed to lick my own plates before I wash them up anyway! (They love the last traces of gravy or ice cream!).

It on1y becomes 'cat' food when you feed it to a cat - tiII then its just 'food' so unIess you Iet the cat Iick the fork then why wouId it matter? Anyway if the cat had anything catching you wouId probabIy get it anyway unIess you never Iet it touch you.
