I loved my 'golly' badges from the marmalade stamps! I also had a black doll - just one of my 'family' when I was small. More importantly, I had, and still possess, an Enid Blyton book of stories in one of which the Golliwog was the hero and rescuer. I never felt a golliwog was a lesser toy - or black people lesser creations.
At one time I do remember a move to stop blackboards being called such, it didn't last long, and in my latter years I was told that I could not display Christmas cards in my classroom unless they were alongside Eid cards (about the same time of year). I ignored the instruction - as did almost everyone else, unless a kid had given them an Eid card.
