Does Child Tax Credits/child Benefit Impact On Other Allowances Received?
Long winded question but I'll try and keep it short!
A friend's parents have their grandson living with them. Social Services are involved but they are now signing all the papers so that the grandparents become his legal guardians and SS have nothing to do with it anymore.
Neither of them work (quite old) and they both receive disability living allowance (or whatever it's called these days). Once they become the grandchild's legal guardians, they will be in receipt of child tax credits and child benefit (I think).
They have heard (from someone at SS) that because they'll be receiving this extra money, it will impact on their disabilty living allowance. Is that correct or not?

I believe DLA is paid as a separate allowance and don't think tax credits will affect payment. However, whatever they get their disability allowance for, will depend what they claim they need help with as to whether this conflicts with looking after a child. You haven't stated age of grandson and I am assuming he is a child.
DLA is not means tested and is untaxed
I think only one of a pair can get it
child tax credit clearly is ( means tested )
