I am not a supporter of this government. It would amuse me to enjoy their discomforture if it were not for the sad fact that these incompetent individuals are actually in charge of the country and our fate. And that does not amuse me one little bit.
The Torys idea of morality is not getting caught..........guess who said these famous lines?
every long standing government comes to an end and it is normally a grisly one.

If the populace were entirely happy with all aspects of government then the blunders/poor choices would be largely tolerated; however, I think most people are frustrated with the current government and so these issues are less tolerated. I wouldn't be surprised if the affair with 2 jags is being focussed on as everyone loves a sex scandal and was it not disclosed before the foriegn prisoner fiasco? If so it was very clever because everyone is tutting at the sex scandal thing and not focussing on the foriegn prisoner thing, which has, of course, far more serious consequences that if we did stop to think about them for any length of time, we would be terrified.

The end? Beginning of the end? Don't know but it doesn't look all that great does it.

Maybe I have an oversimplistic view, but I do know that i find the whole thing very upsetting. The UK is being dragged through the mud again.

This is weird - I'm a trendy leftie, and a supporter of this government...but even I am quite liking what's happening right now.

Tony gang needs a kick up the rear to get themselves sorted. It's happening at the right time. If they can learn from the mistakes of the last week, they will have enough time to sort themselves out and win at the next General Election (2009?).

Loved Patty Hewitt and the nurses. Best comedy since 'Phoenix Nights'.

Thanks Dom, now try answering the question.
Loosehead...no they are not in meltdown. They will win the council elections in 2 weeks time and will win the next general election even if Brown, let alone Godzilla were their leader.

Glad you have confidence Dom!

The Tories should be absolutely caning Labour in the opinion polls, but they aren't...possibly because they have clearly communicated what they stand for.

David Cameron has given plenty of indications as to what he doesn't stand for...but they need to spell out why they should be elected...rathert than why Labour shouldn't be elected.

I'd never vote Tory, but I think we need a strong opposition. It's good for democracy and all that.

Errr 'haven't' rather than 'have'.
Labour has been in meltdown ever since John Smith had his heart attack.
New Labour is in as big a mess as the old Conservative party. The new Conservative leader is still trying to be all things to everyone and is running about like a headless chicken. The LibDems have torn themselves apart at the seams, and if anyone has the audacity to actually agree with the allegedley nasty?? views expressed by UKIP it's denounced as a breakdown of Democracy.
Anyone for a military coup in this country to restore some sanity?

ianess, Loosehead and I are currently building a big wall. Gonna need one. How about a advertising in the guardian for some trigger pullers !!!

Loosehead to answer your question. I dont think there is any doubt about it, and lets not forget that Kinnock has just been banned for speeding yet again.

There is a whiff of the 1990's for New Labour.

Looks like the BNP will be laughing all the way to the council hall.

You know youngmafblog I can't see why somebody who dislikes this labour government would vote BNP when there's a strong capable Tory party waiting in the wings.

Ooops sorry! Got it now - How silly of me

Jake the peg

Exactly the Tory party has also been hijacked by the liberal elite.

Dont think I've ever posted any different so what pint are you trying to make.

Well I thuoght you last accused the Labour party of being responsible for the BNP.

Now it seems that the fault is with moderate Tories.

Frankly - I don't think you can blame moderate liberal policy for rabid right wing lunatics.

Changing your politics to stop extreminst is appeasment - that's generally taken to be a bad thing

1) you clearly did not read the post yesterday correctly nor the other clarification Loosehead gave.

2) Its not moderate liberal policy is it ? Its extreme liberal policy for minorities

3) It would not be changing your policy to appease extremists it appears that a large portion of the population are looking in that direction. Unless of course large numbers consitute the extreme view in your eyes.

I will repeat. It is the extreme liberal policies that are appeasing a MINORITY of people that are p*ssing off the majortiy. As both parties seem to have been hijacked by these so called elite liberals (who have their head stuck so far up their a*se it must be pitch black) there is little opportunity for the MAJORITY to have their opinions represented. They will therefore turn to parties that promise (not I did not say give since I seem to have to spell everything out to you) what they want.

You cannot ignore what the Majority of hard working people want. They want strong family values, law and order and fairness to all. I do not beleive you will get this with the current two major parties.

Beleive me - I do not want the BNP in at all but if people like you cant see it they will make significant gains. Then god(if there is one) help us all.

To answer your question, I think its only a partial meltdown, which unfortunate, seeing what they are doing to this country.

Also, I believe, that they do have a fair to middling chance of winning the next General Election, because they'll have the Scottish vote, not forgetting, that that is the only reason they won last time

Lonnie.........with any luck Labour's supporters in Scotland will start to see through them....but in all honesty just what is there to choose between any of the major parties? Their only policy seems to be to attack the opposition no matter what.
The Scottish Holyrood elections next year will introduce a type of proportional representation which might [don't count on it] mean that they have to work TOGETHER for a change.

What type of democracy is wanted or needed, if at all?

Blair seems a 'decent chap' and is an excellent speaker, however, I cannot stand anything about the Labour party, or the way I feel they are gradually destroying this country.

All hail Cameron.

Blair is the new Thatcher!
The Tories have nothing to compare with Blair and he's supposed to be Labour!!

New Labour is Old Tory.

Socialism is dead!

We're all screwed!

According to the media the government are in meltdown if a minister wakes up to find a boil on his/her bum.
