Socialist Worker Behind Austerity March

I see from the BBC web site that many of the marchers against austerity cuts today are carrying Socialist Worker placards.

So I went to the Socialist Worker web site, and it is full of headlines glorifying various people going on strike. It reminded me of the "bad old days" in the 70s when people went on strike if somebody sneezed near them.

And that was EXCACTLY why Margaret Thatcher was elected in the first place (after the Labour "Winter of discontent") because people were sick to death of the country being brought to its knees by strike after strike.

And because the Socialist Worker don't like the result of the recent democratic election they decide civil disobedience is the answer.

They cant even debate the issues fairly, calling the Tories "Scum" in one headline on their web page.

God help us if this lot ever got a sniff of power, we would be back to the days of the 1970s when this country was being brought to its knees by strike after strike after strike.

Some of you young ones may not realise how bad it was, but it got so bad they even made a Carry On film about it - Carry on at your convenience.

If you don't believe it was bad read this wiki page (when LABOUR were in power) about the Winter of discontent:

https://en.wikipedia.org/?title=Winter_of_Discontent

Then you will know why many people keep voting Troy and don't want Labour in.

Good post, oldbob.
The point to bear in mind is, the SWP are not the inspiration behind these marches. They are just rent-a-mob. Very few people support them.
But they do know how to make placards and shout very loudly (they are not alone in the latter of course)
angler57> "Gromet as you say 64% of those that voted didn't tick the conservative box, but how many people voted for the union leaders or socialist workers? "

Or 24% of the electorate voted for Conservative.

If you were a single SWP member you'd get about £70 a week in benefits. That wouldn't buy much in the way of drugs and white lightning never mind wide screen TVs
I should have said if you were an unemployed single member of the SWP. ^
Socialist Worker ? There's a misnomer if ever there was one!
I remember it well VHG, and it reinforced my belief that Labour was the party to avoid. People like Brand and that stupid woman Charlotte Church (both worth millions) are so ignorant. It was a terrible time, the Unions called for strikes at any time, they held the country to ransom under Labours' rule. Have I read somewhere recently that Alan Milburn has suggested that Blair be lauded as best Prime Minister, there lies another myth.
Funny how the people who really "brought the country to its knees" (funny how the Right love that expression) were the Bankers, not the workers.

Indeed Canary42, will they remember the 2007- ? Financial Crisis brought about by the capitalist kingpins........ or did that not impinge as directly on their narrow focused, selfish world ?

Here is a good primer on how the ongoing Financial Crisis came about and who the various social elites who allowed, condoned and perpetrated the debacle were :-
