I know an old lady who is still driving although she is profoundly deaf, if she had an accident would the insurance company say she should have informed them ?

I don't think being deaf is a problem for driving, eyesight is the biggest problem for the elderly. Once you are over 70 you have to certify that your eyesight is up to standard every 3 years but many do no, or just do not realize how bad their eyesight has become.

What's the difference between being deaf and driving with earphones in/radio at "shake-car" volume?

They`ll do anything to wheedle their way out of paying so I`d probably say yes - of course doesnt the same apply to all those people who wear ipods when driving
is there a tick box on the insurance form

are you deaf ?

if there is - and she didnt then she invalidates her insurance
otherwise not really
