I've begun to use this as a way of texting...
How do I text individual people rather than people joining in a
conversation

The person's name that you want to talk to should come up at the top . At the top right hand side of the screen you will see a little square with a pencil. Touch there and search who you want to talk to. If you want to create a group, just touch Create New Group, and follow the instructions. the person you want to chat with obviously has to have WhatsApp too. It's a great way to communicate, I use it all the time. You can use it to make free phone calls too, as long as you have WiFi

No expert but I have single person groups that I message on rare occasions. My 'issue' with it is that I keep data off to avoid unexpected charges, and WiFi on, so I can only use it in places there is WiFi I can use.

Amusing tale, when I first got the app I played with it to find out how it worked. Didn't realise what groups were and started grouping all my contacts into "family" "friends" "tradesfolk" "work" etc. Must have confused a fair old number of them ! :-O
