Gmail Notifier Not Working

For years I have been alerted to incoming emails by a 'chime' and the
illumination of an icon on the bar on the bottom right.

It has now stopped & I'm told that Google has withdrawn support for it.
Is there an alternative I could download that would provide both visual
& audio alerts to new emails?

As you can tell from my vocabulary I am very limited in my tech.

My advice toalisi is to avoid telephoning the above number because it could be a big scam. gmailsupporter has already been reported for an earlier posting.
