Recommendations For Motion Camera In Car Because Of Damage
Hi!
Recently we've been parking our car up the road (no driveway) as just bought our daughter her first car for when she passes her test. Twice now someone has snapped the wingmirror inwards, quite hard and broken the casing. We've noticed a few other cars have had the same done but think it is someone walking past and doing it rather than a car accidently hitting them. We live in a deadend road and think it is a certain neighbour who has many issues.
Can anyone reccomend a camera we can put in the car that will record even tho the engine is switched off? It's happened twice in less than a week and I want to catch them in the act and make them be held accountable for their actions.
Many thanx :)

In reality, motion detection limits the recording to when there is some movement within the video frame (rather than continuous).
This camera looks like it might do what you want, mostly because it does not have a built in display – so can be set to motion detect, without the miscreant knowing that they are being recorded.
However, its low light level performance is not specified; before purchase I’d recommend that you ask the seller what light level it will operate at (ideally it should be 0.1 Lux or better).
It is not clear how the unit is connected to the 12V vehicle supply, it may require hard wiring via a fuse if it does not use a cigar lighter power connection.
Don’t expect any help from the police, even if you can identify those causing the damage, it’s too much trouble for the police to investigate such criminal damage.

The ones I've mentioned have infrared sensors and are battery powered.
I have 3 of these cameras for watching hedgehogs.
One thing to watch with the Aldi camera is that the first one I bought works fine - takes 3 photos then a video (other settings available). The one I bought last year has a glitch - even though it should do the same as the earlier model, it can only take 1 photo at a time or a video - so I use it as a video camera and have the other take the photos.

Hi Wingnut
I cannot understand why nasty people do this, I have 2 on-board cameras that work through the Cig Light & only power when the Ign is on, the thing you need to think about firstly is safety regards your car & a fire hazard regards 12hr power to your camera ( In case of over heating) have you noticed if anyone has CCTV fitted near or around the area of damage? if so, have a quiet word with the owners, other than that as stupid as it may sound, if other people are having the same problem, seek out who Isn't!! another way, a night patrol but I understand that is going to the extreme.

Brilliant answers everyone thank you so much!!
We suspect it's a neighbour who doesn't actually have a car! I do know they have been visited from the council over the state of their house and garden and been told to sort it out. They told another neighbour it was us who complained! It wasn't as we have had more important things to worry about these past few months with my husband being diagnosed with cancer and in and out of hospital! They are the definition of neighbours from hell!
Thank you all again for your replies :)
