Tesco Online Shop Increase

Have received an email from Tesco to say that as from July 23rd you have to spend £40 online or else you incur the £4 surcharge.Do the other supermarkets do this? x

waitrose dont deliver at all under 60 quid but all deliveries are free.

Sainsbury's have a minimum spend of either £25 or £40. If beween the two, the delivery charge is £6.50...(I think, lol!)

All supermarkets are losing money on home deliveries.

Remember when WE go shopping WE pack the food in our trolley, WE unpack it at the till, WE repack it again, then WE load it in the car.

If a supermarket delivers THEY do the packing, THEY load it in the lorry, THEY deliver it to your home. It all costs money.

The days of free delivery for a small shop have gone.

rockyraccoon, IMO waitrose are superb. I get very few unavailables, no stupid substitutions, very helpful delivery staff and phone customer support. Like for like, I don't find them any more expensive than other supermarkets.

i've just done my last tesco shop, luckily i did it before the email hit so they are honouring the old limit. Im going to have to lug to *** cat litter over the road now :-(

The JL click and collect service is also going to introduce a charge for orders under £30.

I'm surprised it has taken the supermarkets and big stores such a time to realise how much it is costing them in terms of offering the service and the fact that they are missing out on our impulse purchases as we wander about their stores.

Thanks for all your answers. I don't have a problem with paying the delivery charge,I wouldn't expect to get that for free, but I will now have to spend £40 instead of £25 or else I will get the £4 surcharge added, plus the delivery charge.This isn't going to be a problem for families who do a big shop but I think the people it will affect are the elderly who can't get to the shops and probably would struggle to spend £40 especially if they are just shopping for one. I just wondered if the other supermarkets will follow this new limit.

I had a Tesco shop delivered yesterday and the driver mentioned this - I tend to do a largeish shop every two weeks so am always over the £40 limit.

I do feel for those loyal customers who it will affect.

Has anyone tried the "Scan and pack"? I was sceptical at first, but now I'm a big fan. Much quicker and less stressful.

I've used the scan-as-you-shop system in Waitrose for several years...excellent, much better than the usual do-it-yourself checkouts.

Tesco introduced scan as you shop a few years ago where I live. Another good idea in theory but they would pick out people and make them rescan their goods in the normal way to ensure they weren't, shall we say, abusing the system. This of course doubled the time to shop and so people stopped using the scanners and after a few months it was removed.
