Is it acceptable for a care home carer. On there day off to take a resident out to the shops and go to the pub for lunch paid for by the resident. Does it need to be recorded to the care home manager as a gift .

Yes resident could be classed as vulnerable.thanks for both answers.we shall talk to manager.we just wanted to know what to do as the carer could be one of those who generally care for the resident.and we do not want to upset them.

If they are taking advantage of a vulnerable adult, then "upset" is going to be the least of their worries. To be fair, it might be a genuine kindness on the part of the carer. People, whatever their status and cognitive abilities do enjoy doing "normal stuff" and might enjoy "treating" a friend as a repayment for helping them to do something they otherwise couldn't do. Yes, a tactful word to the manager is probably your best way forward.
