I thought instead of a new series they were doing a couple of feature-length ones?

Yes, "Sharpe's Challenge" was on over Easter. It started off being set in Inida (before the Peninsula War) when Sharpe was a Sergeant. It then went to two years after the Battle of Waterloo (1817) and back to India.

AFAIK it was the combination of three books and made into one film.

It was a one-off special. There may be more if it is successful enough.
It's available on DVD already.
My husband is a big Sharp fan too Poglet. We watched it a couple ok weeks ago,but he was a bit disapointed with it.Not as good as the old episodes!

I'm afraid I have to agree with your husband, lindapinda.

I think the problem is that it was an 'ensemble' - it's not the same without Hagman, Cooper, Harris, Sweet William and the American loyalist Captain Leroy.....oh and Brian Cox!
