If your employer cannot or refuses to pay, and you have done everything you can to get your payment, you can apply for a direct payment from the National Insurance Fund. But you must have applied in writing to your employer for a payment within six months of the date your employment ended, or applied successfully to an employment tribunal within the six months after that.
Where have you had the figure of �290 from? It depends on how long tou have worked there, how lmuch you earn etc. Some employers are more generous than others.
I was recently made redundant and my employers paid 3 weeks wages for each year of consecutive service. I had been there 3 years so got nine week wages. Using your figures I would have got less than 3wks!
