Intermittent Connectivity On Sky Broadband
12 Answers
Changed to Sky a few weeks ago and both cable and wireless connected. At least 6/8 times a day the white internet light(funny face) goes amber and I lose internet connectivity. I have to switch power off then on again to router to get light to go white again and regain connectivity. Tried Sky adviser but only thing he comes up with is because MAYBE its the Windows XP I am using thats the reason??. Tried switching off computer and modem at wall. Powered up router but still light is going amber after a while, and losing connectivity. to me this appears to be a problem on incoming power and or telephone line to router?? HELP!

Sounds very much like a line fault to me. Have Sky sent a BT Openreach Engineer to fix the line or a Sky Engineer to replace the Router? Imho the repeated loss of Sync is nothing whatsoever to do with Windows XP on a client PC. Just for interest. Are you using a cabled connection or a WiFi conncetion from your Windows XP computer?

Having XP may be part of your problem as its no longer supported its falling further behind and getting less secure. As a temporary measure download drivereasy and run it - it will give you a machine report and offer all the latest drivers for your hardware. Update the wifi drivers on your machine.
Please consider upgrading to Win 7 - if you machine is compatible - I can give you an address for a cheap legal license.

I am with methyl on this matter. It does appear to be a line fault and therefore ukbod2015's advice should be ignored.
The issue certainly needs attention by Openreach and/or Sky. In the meanwhile I would be interested to know what Broadband speeds you are getting when everything is up-and-running. Try a test by clicking the following:-

I am still thinking that there is a problem on your Broadband connection (Telephone line). Your Ping of 31 is what I am getting at present and is suitable for most on-line activities, but some on-line Games may Not fully perform.
Your download speed is really good and cannot be faulted; however,as upload speeds are normally about 10% of download speeds, there is room for questioning 0.05mbps, which is indeed very slow.

Well Guys, Had sky services on again, told him of findings and advice,he checked and was definitely a profiling issue i.e. uploading problem.. They were sending 2.5 mgb and my system only capable of 1 to 1.5 mgb. Has now adjusted and to monitor ongoing but should be ok. Thanks guys for your help and input.
