I did a specific legal sec course and A-Level Law at college, but if you have good typing skills (min 50 WPM) and have basic secretarial skills or even some previous experience of working in an office, I would suggest you get in touch with some agencies as they will want you to go in and have a chat (informal interview) with them along with a test. Then depending on how your results come out will depend on what they can offer you. It'll be a good first step - sorry don't know what part of the country you are in, but if you're looking for work in London, I can recommend some agencies - let me know.
Sorry to ask a personal question, but are you a school leaver, or just looking for a change of job? If you have had some years of work experience this could stand you in good light. However, if you are a school leaver, some of the larger firms offer trainee legal sec courses - I did one of these straight from college. I was trained for 3 months and then joined a float "pool" of secs.
Good luck though!
