I believe Bertrand Russell managed to prove that nothing can be conclusively proved, only disproved. Pure philosophy is a tricky one, as many early philosophers were what we would now call scientists, but there is certainly a moral and sociological benefit to the pursuit.

How could Bertrand Russell be said to have proved that nothing can be proved, if his conclusion was that nothing can be proved?

the fact that you are asking the question proves that philosophy has solved one thing, your ability to question is a product of the evolution of human thought, which is philosophy taken to its ultimate definition
