It's hard to think of a news story that has made me happier today (apart from the cricket, obviously).

The prospect of the Saudis going broke brings joy to my heart - I remember only too well the dreadful impact that their control of the oil taps through OPEC has had on this country over far too many years.

After decades of a spurious authority over much of the rest of the world (based solely on an accident of geology) it looks like karma is about to strike with a vengeance - not a moment too soon in my opinion.

saudi have been consistently pro British and I would be sorry to see them go back to desert tents and camels
