Warranty Out On Laptop Soon And Knowhow Want

£156, or 10 months at £15.60. Seems a bit steep? Think I paid £8+ last time I had it, which was only a couple of years ago.
Any advice please?

Laptops dont atually break down that often - best just to take it in if something pops up you cant handle - 2 years of that you could buy a new one

I wouldn't pay for any warranty. I've never had to send any of my pcs away to be fixed, maybe I've been lucky but I would say that if no problems have shown up in the first two years it will chug along quite nicely for a another few years.

Knowhow is Currys after sales warranty plan. My lappie came with a free 6 month extended warrenty through knowhow and they pestered me for months to renew. I never did. They make a killing with these schemes praying on peoples fears and dread of their electrical goods breaking down. Whilst your lappie is working search out and make a list of local computer repair businesses for future reference. I would not purchase extended warrenty on anything. ( I am an ex electronics engineer and was 20 yrs in the colour TV repair industry.)

Yes Togo,...you're quite right. I remember when I had it last time for £8 a month, I made use of their telephone advice line, which I found helpful, but when it went completely dead and I let PC World send it away, it was returned "restored to factory settings", and they'd lost a load of my photos :(

Rule #1 Always backup your personal stuff before giving to a repairer
Rule #2 Ask them, unless its absolutely unavoidable, not to restore the machine to factory settings.
Rule #3 Always remove anything you would not wish others to see.
Rule #4 get a ball park figure quote ask them to ring you if they find anything at fault which will incur significant expense above that quote.
Rule #5 Run your problem by the various experts here to see if they can resolve it or give you a cost estimate.
Hopefully you wont need this.

Think an extra laptop might be a good idea,...I haven't got a smartphone, and have no desire to get one, so if this lappy fails, I won't be able to come on here for help....:(
