Change Of Postcode

I have a paper driving licence and since its issue the Royal Mail have changed my postcode but not the name of my street nor my house number number. I still receive letters OK for both postcodes! My question is 'Is my licence still legal?'

Dave 14 you can do a change of address online. DVLA will send you a further form to add photo and post back, you will get new photo licence back in post. Takes about 8 days all in to compete. Your new licence is valid as soon as you have sent you updated details on line.

I wouldn't worry (I didn't when it happenned to me). Your address is still correct so any letters from DVLA will still reach you

your license is supposed to reflect your circumstances..so probably not 100% legal...do as Togo said

They've done away with the paper license now so you'll have to change it anyway. £1000 fine if you don't. You can check about that sort of thing at www.direct.gov.uk

They have NOT done away with the paper licence - they have done away with the paper supplement to the photo licence. The old-style paper licences are still valid.

Dave14 You do not have to pay for a change of address if you avoid the sites who offer help to complete the form. The govt. site is FREE!

Plod may get a bit sniffy if you ever have to show your licence. It is your responsibility to inform DVLA of any change in your circumstances that affect your licence.

I know someone who was fined and 3pts for not having his true address on licence

I had an old postcode on my licence for at least 10 years and it never caused any issues.

Recently the reminder to renew (at 70) came to the correct postcode so DVLA must be aware. The actual renewal came through smoothly in a week.

If you don't want to wait that long I understand it will be treated as a change of address and there won't be any fee.

A couple of tips dave14. When you fill in the form online. Identify the TWO numbers on your licence. 1 of them is an issue no. and the other is a licence ID no. You will need to provide both nos, You will also be asked to provide your NINO. This is a first I think. The govt. are comparing nat ins nos with driving licences issued.

About 20 years ago our postcode was changed, in fact the whole area was changed from one town to another. It was on all the media that we had to have new driving licences as the old ones would have an incorrect address and there is a fine of up to £1000 for having an incorrect address.
