It is only called 'Strictly' - what a stupid word that sounds when you say it out loud - because the format for 'Come Dancing is owned by Julia Morley, widow of Eric who put on the equally enduring shows of that name in the early days of TV.
The BBC knows a cash cow when it sees one - it was one when the wood-stained Mt Morley did it, and it is now - so they won't mess with anything that might damage its ratings.
Of course, as a publicly funded broadcaster, the BBC should not be viewing its programming in terms of competing with other viewing outlets, but that is another debate.

Same gender dancing is judged differently as it has a slightly different structure. The most obvious thing is that the lead passes backwards and forwards between the couples and this is something that they are judged on. Lifts and other more "gymnastic" elements are also judged differently as each partner both lifts and is lifted. There is lots of info on youtube and google. Its interesting to watch and I would like to see it on TV, but i Don't think you can judge it like trad ballroom
