Day Trips From Reykjavik

Hi!

I am staying in Iceland for about 3 days later this month.

I will be based in Reykjavik, and would like to know...

1. Are there guided city tours on foot, and if so has anybody got a link?

2. Can anyone recommend nice places to go on day-long trips by train?

I don't think there is a railway in Iceland

3 days in't long enough to explore. I'd just take a few long walks, and once you've worked up an appetite, eat locally.

I've just got back from there. The buses are good. You buy a ticket for the equivalent of £2, and you can use it all day on the buses. We went on an Elding Whale Watching boat. I think it was about £40 and a lovely coach trip all around looking at waterfalls, volcanic land and geysers which was a similar price. The only guided walk I saw was a haunted one, which was at 8pm every day.

You can also get a ferry to the isle of Videy, which is just a five minute journey for £5. That's right, there are no trains in Iceland.

We did:
Day 1: explore Reyk city on foot - it is not too big and very nice - mooch round to find what you think at the best whale watching boat trips and day trips out by coach - evening is lively in city centre, but pretty expensive.
Day2: Coach sightseeing tour that you have chosen
Day3: Early whale watching boat trip (couple of hours) then get coach headed for airport that stops off at the Blue Lagoon for a couple of hours - absolute bliss. Return to coach park for trip to airport.

There are plenty tourist information centres in Reykjavik, you can't miss them. They all speak perfect English. You won't have any trouble booking any coach trips you fancy. There's plenty of choice.

Go and have a look at this place - well you can't miss it, it is visible from most anywhere in the city.
