Hello. I have a kindle fire HD which works well all of the time as long as the inbuilt battery is recharged. My question is daft though it may be, What happens when the battery dies? is it replaceable? do you have to buy a new kindle and lose all the stuff on your old one. Again sorry if this sounds a bit daft but any replies would be greatly appreciated

Batteries can be replaced in Kindles SOG.
There are instructional videos on the net showing how to do it yourself. Unless you have the right tools and are a bit "techy" I'd suggest paying a tech to do it for you.

As I have kids with lots of "techy" gadgets I purchased a toolkit for repairing these sort of things (wasn't expensive) and have done many repairs. Not all have been successful though.

I have a tool kit, but have not had to replace the battery in my Kindle yet. I don't know how easy it would be, but I think it would be easy enough if you are at all a DIY type.

An instructional video from youtube to follow, good eyes, (magnifying glass for me), good lighting and a steady hand, (something to rest forearms against), and a lot of these gadgets aren't that difficult to fix.
Depends how they are held together, bonded, I reckon forget it. Screws, no problems.

All good information from my estimable colleagues here but make sure you know precisely which version you have by swiping down from the top of the screen selecting settings then device options to see what generation kindle you have.

This is my big bugbear. Batteries in phones and tablets should be easy to replace. I won't buy a phone that doesn't have a replaceable battery

Thank you all very much for your help. I guess I might buy a toolkit as I have a few gadgets around that could be "looked at"battery wise.Sorry...very old ex engineer, can't stop fiddling. Thanks again S.O.G.
