Very laudable. So why is the legal age for smoking 16?
Under this law, an 18 year old non-smoker could be driving with a 16 year old smoker. If the 16 year old was smoking, they could be fined for poisoning themself. The driver could also be fined for allowing the smoker to poison themself.
It's even more hilarious if a 17 year old non-smoker is driving with a 16 year old smoker. If the 16 year old was smoking, they could be fined for poisoning themself, and fined again for poisoning the driver. The driver could also be fined twice.

/// The state does not ban you from trying to kill
yourself ///
Do they not ban one for not wearing a seat belt in one's car or wearing a crash helmet on a motor bike?
As for the protection of children, why don't they bring in a law, forcing parents to make their children wear head protection while out on their bikes?

//Latest figures show 17% of the population are smokers now, but over 80% of prisoners and those confined to mental hospitals smoke ! Does this tell us anything?//
//that it is mind numbingly boring in both institutions ! //
Been to both, was bored in both, smoked in both...
Smoking in cars, with kids on board is incredibly selfish. Nothing to do with the state taking AWAY our rights. More like the state GIVING the rights for children to breath clean air.

Where did you get that piece of incorrect information from?

*** A new study commissioned by the Mayor of London has shown that the health impacts of air pollution in the capital are much worse than previously thought, with 9,500 early deaths caused in London each year from exposure to air pollution. This is more than double the previous official figure and more than the number of deaths caused by smoking ***
*** The Mayor’s study looks at the effects of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) – a pollutant mainly produced by diesel vehicles. These are shocking figures and show just how urgently we need to reduce the diesel use in our most populated areas. ***
