well theres only one way to find out.... seriously tho, my suggestion is to have a litter tray by the back door at night for a week and see if it gets used much (you'll have to remove the tray during your waking hours coz he might just get lazy and stop going out altogether... what a choice for him, outside and dig your own / ensuite / outside dig your own / ensuite????????????????? yes definatley hide the litter tray during the day :-D
You're really putting your cat out at night?? Bit cold for him isn't it? THe RSPCA and other cat authorities don't recommend that at all these days. It's an old wive's tale that cats like to go out at night. They feel the cold too! They ARE nocturnal but will quickly adjust to sleeping at night, so he'd much rather curl up somewhere indoors. Especially as he's old now and needs to be in the warm at night. A litter tray indoors is no hardship to maintain. How long can YOU go without the loo? Treat the old fella with a bit deference and let him use the litter try every time if he needs it. Plus as he's older, his kidneys are probably past their best (a well known weak spot on cats), so a convenient loo would be best. :)
