Is it me? But I'm seeing miles of page space taken up by //copying and pasting exactly what someone has posted// than adding one's own two pennorth.
This then becomes part of an online copy and pasting competition between a small group of combatants.

It's exactly like a yearning for 1990s IT has broken out. remember? When forums automatically churned out miles of unnecessary text?

Boo - //AndyH, God love him is the main culprit for this, and I really do love him dearly, but I can't being myself to read his looooooooooooooooooong posts with the downright weird //'s thrown in. What is wrong with using the quote marks on your keyboard? //

Thank you - love you too!

I got the // from AOG, and it allows you to quote speech in the copied bit without confusion.

Sorry if you don't like it, but I genuinely believe it saves confusion - I have seen several times where people query and then re-query posts, but there is confusion over which one the responses are referring to.

xx
wouldn't the correct use of "'s do exactly the same thing?

And I think your wordy answers are more my problem than yours, I've the attention span of a gnat andy, my eyes glaze over by the 2nd paragraph of anyone's post, no offense meant x
Absolutely none taken sweet pea xx
Wouldn't 're AH post at 15.23' be sufficient if people are that interested the can scroll back. It would save an awful lot of space.
Personally I would have been able to follow the thread if andy had just posted.

It's ok, this is cyber space, we don't have to pay for it, and we are not limited! x
Talbot - //Personally I would have been able to follow the thread if andy had just posted. //

I am tempted to make a comment about you following threads, but in the interests of good relations, I'll refrain!
Andy //.............// I haven't yet managed to learn how to copy and paste on my iPad so basically I'm knackered!! So I'll just have to refer back if I wish to comment (which isn't very often)
What's with all the /////// \\\\\\\? What happened to the good old " "?
Talbot, generall two identical passages of text look kind of ...identical, paragraphs, spacing, etc.

No...go ahead
I think I've done as much falling out with AB'ers today as I would want to - but thanks for the offer - maybe another day.

Have a good evening.

Ah, you have been falling out with ABers!
Well I guess it takes all sorts to make the interenet go round.
"What's with all the /////// \\\\\\\? What happened to the good old " "? "
I copied and pasted that.
Oops! I just realized that B00 asked the same question.

Hey did you see what i did there?!!

My belief is that the //////s come from old 'computer experts' raised in the days when inserting " " would cause t'interweb to implode and make your pc cease up like a u-bend filled with beef dripping.
"Hey did you see what i did there?!!" That's precisely what I meant, Mosaic:) Anyway, it seems to me that the // \\ usage is a relative new fashion.

Lolsters Stuey.
Irony doesn't convey well electronically even with emoticons.

"I got you first time"
I use // on either side of the bit I’m responding to simply to distinguish it clearly and keep the post tidy.

Example: First with “….”, second with //….//

“"What's with all the /////// \\\\\\\? What happened to the good old " "? "”

// "What's with all the /////// \\\\\\\? What happened to the good old " "? //
