Britain's capital?

Is London the capital of the UK as well as the capital of England? This is in response to an answer I received to another quesion. Apparently, Britain is not a country.

London is the capital of the UK from a govermental standpoint, ie MPs from Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland also sit at Westminster. There is no assembly for England alone. Therefore London is more capital of the UK than it is of England.

'Britain is not a country' - technically I suppose this is true as it really should be referred to as United Kingdom (Scotland, England, Wales, Northern Ireland). Britain (or Great Britain) referes to only Scotland, England and Wales. In the olympics for example it is not UK but GB & Northern Ireland which is essentially the same.

The four separate countries have their own capital cities: Wales, Cardiff; Scotland, Edinburgh; Eire, Dublin; Northern Ireland, Belfast.

London is also the capital of the British Commonwealth, being where the Queen's main residence is.
