I have had a Canon PowerShot A460 for over 5 years which serves me very well - gives good quality uploads at the "leisure usage" level.

Hi there: Go for one of the cheapish quickshot digital cameras, ie: Samsung, Canon, Nikon; they are a cinch to use but be sure to rather go for one that has a built-in rechargeable ion battery ... not the AA/AAA battery-types that always seem to flat when you need them most! Again, you really don't need more than a 8-megapixel jobbie, unless you are printing your pics out at A3 sizes. Good hunting.
