i have been toying with the idea of getting a small, disceet tattoo for a few years now but have yet to find the perfect one for me. I want something quirky and fun but like i said, its gotta be small. My question is does anyone know of any good websites that could give me a few ideas. When i put tattoos in my search engine it comes up with the heavy stuff, skulls oozing blood and all that sort of thing!!! Also, any ideas would be useful, i love fairies btw thanks x

: ) on the bottom of your big toe.
I have a butterfly facing sideways on the inside of my ankle! its discreet but boy it hurts there!! When i was looking around i could only find the hard core ones too! i drew my own! ;o) x
Find a tattoo artist that you like and get him to design in. If yyou live in the south of England I can recommend someone. I am about to get my fifth and this guy designed them all - and none of them are skulls and none of them hurt very much!
My tattooist does free hand so i can tell him what i want and he draws it,but saying that i do have the biggish ones, native american and all that,!!

Have you got any kids....maybe have their birthsigns tattoo'd on a discreet area or something in japanese writing.

Mmmmm, I have just the one tattoo, an intricate Regimental one on my right bicep. It was drawn by a Gerkha soldier in 1994. That means I have had 11 years to regret it. I hate it. I would like to think I hold a modicum of dignity and class about my person, yet this monstrosity make me look like somebody who holidays in Blackpool and has a girfriend called Tracey.

I have been told that it is a good tattoo and very well done. The ink used was a Nepalise style that is not used here. Alas, it is just not me i am afraid. I shalln't bore you with why I had it done in the first place.

My advice would be to think long and hard about it. Granted you want a small, discreet one but remember one day you will be a Grandmother.

And you would like a fairy. Why anybody would want a tattoo of Graham Norton, Elton John or Sean from Corrie is beyond me.

Good Luck.

You WILL come to regret it. Why not have semi-permanent tatoos or even good quality transfers?

Pain free and you can ring the changes.

My favourite tattoo quote:

"People have pictures put on their bodies they wouldn't be seen dead hanging on their living room wall"

i do appreciate what you are saying and know the pitfalls, as i said, it would be very small and very discreet. I would never put something permenant on my body without very very careful thought first. I will only get one if i do find, as i said, the perfect one. I do quite like having something to honour my two boys, but worry that i couldn't get it small enough. I would have it on either my thigh or on my shoulder blade. I hate to see women with large tattoos especially on their arms so i do know where you're coming from. LMAO @ WM fairies indeed!!!!! The kind with wings were more along my line of thought! But hey, who knows, sean from corrie might look quite good on my bum!!!

The semi permanant ones don't go, by the way. I have one that was supposed to last 5 years, and then fade. I've had it 9 years, and it's not going anywhere baby!!

I'm about to get a little wing done on each ankle, but don't be a copy-cat!!

OK doglady, i promise i won't pinch your idea LOL

Julie: Don't listen to anyone trying to put you off. It's your body, and you seem like a sensible enough girl to make up your own mind! People just do not understand that tattoos these days aren't limited to prisoners and bikers, and it's evolving as a very credible form of art. The inks that are used now don't fade or blur as the old style indian ink tattoos did, and people are professionally trained in how to tattoo (including my best friend, hurrah!) nowadays.

If you go to a reputable tattoo studio (most reputable ones go by appointment only, as a guide) and have a look through their books of flash, I'm sure you'll find something that you can have adapted to be more individual to yourself! Try www.bmezine.com - there are tattoo galleries there (as well as some very heavy stuff, if it takes your fancy, haha) and separated into subsections e.g flowers, Japanese, faeries, etc.

Oh, and as a final word, take ibuprofen before you go. It'll take the edge off (to me, getting inked feels like um.... hot and scratchy?!) and prevent your skin getting swollen afterwards. And also, for aftercare I highly recommend Lasonil - you can get it from any chemist's, if you ask for it. It's only a couple of quid and you only need to apply it a few times a day during healing.

Ok, I'm shutting up now! ;)

Good luck! Let us know what you decide :D xxx

Thanks malaise. I knew i would get some people saying don't do it but i am still not 100 per cent sure and won't be until i find "IT" I am gonna have a look at the website you suggested but i am quite interested in an earlier suggestion about birthsigns. I could have a Virgo(eldest son) a Libra(little son) and a scorpio to represent my hubby and me.That would be nice and personal. I have thought about birth dates but i would prefer pictures as opposed to just numbers and then it all starts getting larger than i wanted.Thank you to everyone who has took the trouble to answer my question! x

my birthday is halloween too, have a witch tatoo it would be fun, not an evil looking one, a really pretty one lke Samantha.
