The trouble with just dropping the names of famous photographers into the interview is that they may ask you more about them.

You can imagine the scenario, you mention a photographers name, they ask you what do you like about them, and you sit there open mouthed.

Here is one web site that lists hem

Just search in google for "famous photographers"

Annie Leibowitz photographs celebrities in an unusual and creative way. Check her out.
Julia Margaret Cameron, Charles Dodgson (aka Lewis Carroll), David Hockney, Robert Mapplethorpe, Lord Lichfield, Lord Snowdon, Terence Donovan ...

.....Denis Healey, the Duke of York, Terry Neill, David Bailey.....

Kevin Carter... his own work and awards for it led to his suicide.
Without wishing to sound sanctimonious but why do you feel the need to drop names of photographers you obviously have no real interest in.
I'm sure the course leaders will be looking for enthusiasm and willingness to learn - not the names of some photographers people off the internet have told you about (no offence ABers - you are doing a grand job!).
If it was a History of Photography course then i would swot up but if you can prove you have an interest in the subject your knowledge of other photographers should hopefully increase as you take more of an interest thanks to the course (i hope!).
To be honest - i think you are approaching this interview the wrong way. Your lack of knowledge will be obvious if dont know now. Just be honest and say 'i want to learn" - it will get you further than what is, essentially, lying!

I think your right Gary Baldy. I just get really nervous at interviews. And just thought it might sound good if I knew some names of photographers

This is a useful quick introduction - 500 photos, each from a different photographer, one per page. I second what gary and vehelpfulguy said, though - rather than bluffing, find two or three whose works you like and see if you can find out more about them.

The ultimate news photographer co-founded the magnum agency

Was the only photographer to go in with the first wave of the D-day landing although a mistake in a lab nearly distroyed all the photographs the resulting blurred images almost enhance the pictures.

Look at the second picture down "death of a loyalist soldier" - Spanish Civil war, and ask yourself how he actually got that picture - it's been conraversial since it was taken.

He was killed by a landmine in Vietnam in the first IndoChina war

i would go for manray, herb ritts, henri cartier-bresson, dorothea lange, lee friedlander etc etc i just did a course and these were the ones we had to look at
