Just had another one of these calls.
If it was important, they'd ask for me, or my missus, by name, so I always reply, "I'm sorry, I'm just looking after the house, can I take a message??" They simply say that they'll call back at another time; so I don't need to engage them in conversation.
Before you ask, yes I am registered with the TPS, but these calls still filter through.
Don't bother engaging them in conversation and getting wound up - just simply tell them that you're looking after the house and they'll lose interest VERY quickly ......

I am with you on this one Giz, I say I am the Housekeeper and that's enough for them, off they go! not really telling fibs as I am the Housekeeper!

D.T. what a good one, this issue was talked about a few months back, I sorted this problem by purchasing a BT Phone with a blocker on, very easy to set up, never had a Lucky Lucky relation from Africa telling me that a gold mine has been left to me in a will, no PPI Calls, house Ins Calls, any survey calls, not one.

Sometimes when I am 'Home Alone' and I am asked are you the owner I say, I will get her now. I then put the phone down but still connected, turn up the radio, and shout there is an urgent call for you (..name..). I then pick up the phone and say she will be with you now. I have carried this charade on for up to 15 minutes, shouting hurry up they are waiting, even conducting a full on domestic whilst getting the dog to bark, and answering my mobile shouting that I have an important call on the landline. When they finally hang up I leave the phone off the hook for an hour. ''She Who Must Be Obeyed'' wont let me play this game when she is home.
