Paypal Scam.

I have received this morning an e/mail purporting to be from PayPal asking me to verify a payment of $104.99 to PENGUIN United States PTY LTD. It looks quite genuine and explains that, if I feel an error has been made, a click on a link will take me through to a page where I can request the payment to be refunded to my account. No doubt, if I had clicked the link, I would be expected to give my account number for a 'wipe-out'.

A telephone call to Paypal has confirmed it to be a Scam and I have forwarded the e/mail to [email protected]

There are a number of scams around, only genuine e mails from Paypal have your full name on them, bin the rest.

Thanks for this -I've had a few weird emails lately relating to both PayPal and EBay -the easiest way to deal with this is to log onto your account and see if there are any messages on your real account.

Yes - the paypal scams are getting more literate and more convincing - "never access any account via a supplied link" is the best advice.

I'm also getting quite a few emails purporting to be about Amazon gift cards - again they are very plausible until you look carefully at the senders' addresses.

me too but this was from a web site i use once in a while saying they are having problems with there payment links to paypal and gave a number to ring if you needed to contact them not a link to click on so that was genuine, seems someone got it in for paypal.

I got one from "Paypal" recently , knew it was a scam because it said "dear customer" did not use my name & address, I had been pre warned.

In connection to Hans post, how Vulnerable are you? are you experienced enough by using the net to spot a scam? would you ask someone's advice before making a dreadful mistake?

I logged into PayPal through Google as I received this email too, and of course a payment hadn't been taken. It was quite realistic though, so don't ever click on any links which you receive in that way. Go to the site through the route which you would normally use.
