Fat cat

Our 6 1/2 year old cat had her neutering operation when she was 6 months old and ever since, she has had a flap of skin that hangs down and I suppose it doesn't help that she is a little overweight, but cries and cries for food and eats on average 3 Felix pouches a day (Is that normal?)

It makes it difficult for her to use the cat-flap. She'd rather wait for someone to come along to open the door for her!

She's never had kittens (its like a post-pregnancy belly!)

Is there anything that can be done to help? More exercise? (How do you make a cat do something they don't want to though? ha ha)

She will not eat those dry pellet kind of foods.

Does anyone have a similar situation?

If she is crying for food it may be a health related hunger as opposed to a greedy cat hunger. My cat has a saggy belly, but he isn't at all fat. My cat exercises - he lies and thinks about moving all day, then wanders down stairs for a feed - then back to bed until the next meal.

My monster is old and was waking me up during the night for food - the vet checked him for possible thyroid problems. But there was nothing wrong with him, he was just wanting food and a cuddle. I bought a water pistol and shot the little devil - it only sort-of worked.

It seems that it is possible to train a cat - I wouldn't have the patience. Trying to convince him to chase his mouse toys is exhausting. He just sits and glares at me with that smug look on his face.

She hammers the food, most times, once you've put it down for her, other times she sniffs it disdainfully, then walks off, tail in the air showing us her bum!

Seems that she just wants to know she can get you to do what she wants, ha ha, because she does return to it later.

She does take fits of tearing madly around the house (maybe full moon time?!) and playing with various toys scattered about the place!

We rarely give her tit-bits, so I know its not that. Maybe just like her owners that pick at food when not really hungry and just being greedy!

Hi Queenofsheba our cat has a belly like your cat, but ours is not overweight and she is very active. She is a bird hunter, there was a time when she would catch up to 2 birds a day. Thats when we had to get her a bird alert coller to try and save some birds and we were sick of the mess she left all over the house. Now with the coller she catches maybe 1 every 2 months or so if not longer, she still tries her best though. She seems normal to us she has regular checkups with the vet and they say she is fit and well, so i dont worry about it. By the way she has never had kittens either. She loves to laze about like any cat and will fly across the room if she sees a spider pootling along, so can move when she wants to, but thankfully no prezzies brought back for me!

Whether or not she kills anything when out and about I don't know. Although she did corner a frog, once in the garden, squealing his head off, til I rescued him!

Asked vet for advice before, but they said it wasn't anything to worry about, her belly that is.

Think maybe I'll get a treadmill for her or book her in for a spot of liposuction, hee hee!
