Well, I think you are talking about something called ..ASCITES.

Depending on the cause, it's not particularly good news.
Question Author
Can you please expand a bit sqad ?
Yes certainly.

If it is ascites and i am assuming it is, then the commonest cause is cirrhosis of the liver (is she a drinker?)

The next commonest cause is late congestive cardiac failure (long standing heart failure)

T.B was at one time a cause, but is now uncommon.

Finally...malignant disease of the abdomen....e.g stomach or ovary.

If you want other causes, then Google ..ASCITES, but i have given you the commoner causes off the top of my head.

The lady in question has had a scan of the stomach/abdomen and she also had an internal examination through her ' front down below ' .
She was advised that the womb and tubes were clear .

Is that an encouraging sign , given the fluid in stomach ?

I apologize for maybe being a scaremonger but my dear friend had cancer in the outer wall of the stomach. Took time to identify where the cancer was but he was full of ascites fluid and as sqad says not very good news.
Bazile......you didn't mention ovaries or stomach.

Brinzal makes a good post concerning the possibility of stomach cancer.

The news is not getting any better Bazile, i am sorry to say.
\\\\\The lady in question has had a scan of the stomach/abdomen and she also had an internal examination through her ' front down below ' .

Are we to assume that the other abdominal organs were clear OR just the womb and tubes?

I dont quite follow you - i did say in the question and title ' fluid in stomach '

I beleive that the fluid in stomach was indentified after scan of abdomen/ stomach
LOL........OK Bazile......probably my fault.
Stomach can either describe the "stomach" or the abdomen depending upon the identity of the describer. Stomach is specific and abdomen is no specific.
I know that i am nor making myself clear.

I cannot think of the relevance, if at all, for the comment..."fluid in the stomach"

We are going around in circles as we may well be singing from different hymn sheets.

Sorry Bazile........I am struggling here.

Would a person going through the menopause , likely to suffer fluid retention in the abdomen ?
Bazile.......I am guilty here of criticising other ABers for jumping to conclusions, when i have done the same.

We must be sure as to what we are dealing with.....ASCITES or fluid in the stomach ( the organ).

\\Would a person going through the menopause , likely to suffer fluid retention in the abdomen ?\\

Maybe, but it would be extremely unlikely to show up on a scan and the fluid retention of the menopause is generalised, distributed throughout the whole body and not localised.
