Before I go home I am calling to see a friend who lost her husband a couple of weeks ago - I understand she is 'up and down'

Hi, I hope you're able to bring some support to your friend.
The good thing about being retired is every day is the same. But I have been busy today, cleaning, washing, baking etc. So I am looking forward to a rest over the weekend. :-)

Hope your friend is okay. Tough times 'up and down' is completely normal. Hopefully she has people around her that understand that.

Good luck with the call. It will matter to her that you made contact, no matter what state she is in at the moment. :)

Tomorrow is Bridlington Old Town Heritage day, so Mr. J2 will drive us there (I'm not up to tackling proper traffic and manoeuvering yet) and we hope to spend a couple of pleasant and informative hours. There is free entry to the Bayle Museum, a free guided tour of the Priory and a self-guided tour of the lovely old streets with explanations of the blue plaques.
Really looking forward to it as the tourists have mostly disappeared - not that they frequent the Old Town anyway.
