I'm ok on motorway when I know where I'm going but I've got to drive from blackpool to Gorton in Manchester which involves the M60. Which I hate! Any tips ?

Can't afford to
M61 then M602.
What aspect concerns you? Study the route before you travel, even writing down or memorising the exact junction numbers you need to change at. Keep an eye out for all signs as you go, especially upcoming warnings of junctions and correct lanes if it's your junction. If it's the driving then pootle along in the slow lane leaving plenty of space between you and whatsever in front. Is there something particularly awful about the M60?
Go to the AA website journey planner (see below) and enter your start and end points, then tick the "Avoid Motorway" box. This will give you a route without using the M60.

Thanks so much. I've been on it twice at busy times and couldn't move over when I had to. Then got lost!
before satnav, I just made sure I knew the junction numbers to exit the motorway from, just get over in plenty of time they usually give a 1 mile to go warning, get over then.

/// pootle along in the slow lane///

There is no such thing, they are all subject to M-way Speed Limit
Just stay in the inside lane if it's really busy.
If someone is with you, do not Chater Chater Chater, make sure you have fuel, concentrate on what you are doing, It's a Clear run from Blackpool, M55>>M6>>M61>>M62>>M602, Depending when / what time you are going, from Bolton ( M61) Gets very busy joining the M62, keep in the Near side lane ( Left Lane) until you reach the M602, when you have reached the M602, It's a clear run.
To add, could not remember where Gorton was, so, M55>>M6>>M61>>M62 East heading for Leeds, come off on the M60 & Head for the signs for the Airport, you will pick up the sign for Gorton, this route is far easier, less hold ups, Mancunian Way ( A57) has hold ups as there was a "Sink Hole" there 2 weeks ago, If you have a map, or Google it Cris. when on the M62, keep in the near side lane, this way you can not miss your Junction.
"There is no such thing, they are all subject to M-way Speed Limit"
That is my definition of pootling. There's no law for example that you can't stay at 45 in the slow lane.

It's a debate we've had many times on AB, 45mph on an M/way is as likely to cause an accident as speeding, probably more so, if you can't do it, don't do it!
I agree but I've just checked, there is currently no legal minimum speed in England on a M-way.
I know someone who does that bit of motorway regularly. 45mph would be unachievable on that bit of motorway.15 mph is the fastest you'll go normally and it's complicated by all sorts of roadwork with lane closures especially at off peak times
Dear Crisgal, Invest a few quid in a reputable driving school and ask them to conquer your issues with motorway driving. Then buy a good map and plot any journey before you leave.
totally agree ^^^^^ being flaky and indecisive on a motorway is dangerous to other drivers and you should get some lessons.
If you have a fear of Motorway driving, I wonder if you should be behind the wheel at all.
